Wylie was given to MSIR from a home that could no longer keep him. He is an active, curious Shiba that wants to explore every inch of the world. Wylie loves meeting new people and is quite the charmer. This is partly due to his good looks, everyone he's ever met so far has loved his long hair.

He is friendly with everyone he meets of all ages. He also gets long well with other dogs, and wants to play all the time. Wylie will play fetch until your arm falls off. Because Wylie is so curious, a home needs to be 'Shiba-proof' prior to having Wylie live there. He has no problems opening cabinet doors and sniffing whatever poisons are stored under the sink. He will also open any door that's not fully closed, and if that's the front door, he'll gladly explore the rest of the world. After he has explored for a while, he does settle down, and will lay down to relax until you toss a toy.

Wylie loves toys with squeakers in them, and he'll work very hard to get the squeaker out of the toy so he can chew the squeaker directly. Wylie has had some basic obedience training, and with some continuing education will be a very well behaved Shiba as long as he is able to get some exercise and explore. When Wylie knows there's a treat on the line, he's great at responding to commands.

Due to Wylie's curiosity and the general nature of Shibas to bolt through doors or after squirrels, Wylie will always require being leashed outside and lots of initial supervision inside until he becomes acclimated to his new home.

DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS "MUST ALWAYS BE LEASHED" WHENEVER OUTSIDE A SECURELY FENCED AREA!

The adoption fee for Wylie is $350.  Please refer to the MSIR website for more information on the application and adoption process.

  • Upon completion of each positive motivation-based obedience class, MSIR will rebate the new adopters $25.
  • And, upon earning a Good Canine Citizen certificate, MSIR will rebate another $25!

Any one interested in adopting Wylie must first complete an adoption application and indicate, in the comments section, their interest in Wylie.
The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site. Once the adoption application is received,  David will contact you.
