Winchell was found wandering through a Michigan neighborhood.  After failed attempts to find his original owners, he was rescued by MSIR and named after the neighborhood he was found in.

Winchell is a fabulous dog.  Everyone that has met him has loved him from the minute they were drenched in his slobbery shiba kisses.  He loves people, loves to give kisses, and loves to cuddle.  He's the most lovable shiba inu we've ever known!  He has tested well with cats and other dogs (though he doesn't get along too well with the dominant resident male).  He has not been tested with children. Winchell is still a puppy at heart and has tons of energy.  He would make a great agility dog or running/rollerblading partner, and he will definitely require a lot of exercise.  Winchell is very high-energy.

Though he's much more outgoing and "lovey" than a typical shiba, he still has many typical shiba traits.  Since he is still young, he can be mouthy and has to keep working on his manners.  We've been working with him to teach him basic commands (sit, down, stay, wait, paw, etc).  He's quite smart and eager to please, so he learns very fast.

We are looking for a forever home for Winchell that will love him with as much love as he has to give.  Since he is still young, we would like a home without small children as well as a shiba-savy home to help guide his boundless energy.

DUE TO THE BREED'S INDEPENDENT NATURE, SHIBAS "MUST ALWAYS BE LEASHED" OUTSIDE A SECURE AREA! It is very likely that Winchell escaped his previous home, so caution must always be taken around open doors.

His adoption fee is $350. (Please refer to MSIR website for application and adoption process).

Any one interested in adopting Winchell must first complete an adoption application and indicate, in the comments section, their interest in Winchell. The entire adoption process is outlined on our web site. Once the adoption application is received,  Bridget will contact you.
